3.Prevent overproduction of T4 and TSH hormones.
4.Block the attachment of antibodies to the thyroid cells.
5.ThryoSoothe is formulated for hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), please refer to ThyroidAssist for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).

What is Hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism is a medical condition in which the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone (called T3 and T4). As the thyroid gland plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism and has effects on nearly all organs in the body, an overactive thyroid can have far reaching effects on health and body functioning.

What are the symptoms of Hyperthyroidism?

An overactive thyroid can result in the following symptoms. If you feel that these apply to you, please consult your doctor for an assessment.

1.Palpitations.
2.Breathlessness.
3.High blood pressure.
4.Swelling at the base of the neck .
5.Increased perspiration.
6.Constant stare or blinking.
7.Insomnia.
8.Fatigue.
9.Restlessness.
10.Anxiety.
11.Increased bowel movements.
12.Light or absent menstruation.
13.Weight loss.
14.Trembling hands.
15.Feeling hot.
16.Muscle weakness.
17.Hair loss.

How is Hyperthyroidism diagnosed?

The diagnosis of hyperthyroidism is easily made by means of a blood test to measure levels of the thyroid hormone (T3 and T4) in the blood. Levels of a hormone called TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) secreted by the pituitary gland, will also be measured. Other tests may be done to measure how the thyroid uses iodine and to determine which type of hyperthyroidism the person has.

What causes Hyperthyroidism?

The most common cause of an overactive thyroid is Graves Disease. Graves Disease is an auto-immune illness in which the immune system begins to attack parts of ones own body - in this case the thyroid gland.

Other causes of Hyperthyroidism include nodules on the thyroid gland, inflammation of the thyroid (thyroiditis) and over-treatment of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).

How is Hyperthyroidism usually treated?

Hyperthyroidism may be treated with anti-thyroid drugs like methimazole and propylthiouracil (PTU) - which block the thyroid from producing thyroid hormone.

Although these drugs may quickly bring the thyroid into balance, they can have side effects such as itching, rash, fever, liver inflammation or a deficiency of white blood cells. Often the hyperthyroidism comes back after these drugs are discontinued.

For this reason, orthodox medicine often recommends that the thyroid be permanently put out of action by means of radioactive iodine treatment or surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid. While this can permanently solve the problem of hyperthyroidism, oftentimes the symptoms that accompany hypothyroidism still persist even after the treatment.

People who have had their thyroid gland removed or inactivated by radioactive iodine treatment usually have to take medication for hypothyroidism for the rest of their lives. Other medication, for example beta-blockers, may be prescribed to control some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

Can natural remedies help?

If left untreated, hyperthyroidism can be a significant threat to health and may cause serious complications.

Mild hyperthyroidism often responds well to complementary medicine and a holistic approach (including diet) and may help to calm down the thyroid and remove the need for radioactive iodine treatment or surgery. This should be discussed with your doctor, homeopath or naturopath before home treatment of overactive thyroid is begun.

More than 5 million Americans suffer from Hypothyroidism and as many as 10% of American women may have some form of thyroid dysfunction! Many people have hypothyroidism without even realizing it!

What is the thyroid gland and what does it do?

The thyroid gland is situated at the base of the throat and is stimulated by the pituitary gland to produce hormones which are important for the functioning and maintenance of all the cells in the body and for metabolism.

If there is an underproduction of thyroid hormones, hypothyroidism will result. Overproduction causes hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid.

There are different types of thyroid disease and dysfunction:

1.Hashimoto's Disease or Thyroiditis (one of the most common forms of hypothyroidism, an auto-immune disease of the thyroid gland).
2.Hypothyroidism caused by a sluggish thyroid gland or thyroid gland inflammation.
3.Hypothyroidism caused by surgery or medication.
4.Hypothyroidism caused by iodine deficiency.
5.Hypothyroidism caused by dysfunction of the pituitary gland.

What are the symptoms of Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

1.Chronic fatigue and weakness.
2.Weight Gain or difficulty losing weight.
3.Hair loss or coarse, dry hair.
4.Dry and rough skin.
5.Intolerance to cold.
6.Abnormal menstrual cycles.
7.Decreased sex drive.
8.Memory loss.
9.Depression and irritability.
10.Constipation.
11.Muscle cramps.
12.Not all of these symptoms are always present. If you are concerned that you may have Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, always consult your doctor.

What is the treatment for hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism is conventionally treated by administering a daily dose of synthetic thyroid hormones (e.g. Levothyroxine). This can often restore healthy thyroid functioning very effectively.

One of the main problems with synthetic thyroid hormones is that they may result in too much thyroid hormone in the body, resulting in hyperthyroidism.

Another problem is that some people do not have sufficient amounts of an enzyme needed to convert T4 into T3 (its active form).

Some doctors therefore prefer to use a form of natural thyroid hormone extracted from cows, which contains both T4 and T3 thyroid hormones. There has been some concern, however, that this form of natural thyroid hormone may be contaminated by harmful viruses.

Thyroid Assist, is a 100% herbal remedy to assist in the treatment of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Thyroid Assist along with a healthy diet and lifestyle, can help to promote thyroid health and bring relief from many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

What is Thyroid Assist?

Thyroid Assist contains herbs that have been carefully selected for their beneficial effect on thyroid functioning, as well as on overall systemic health.

Regular use of Thyroid Assist can help to restore deficient iodine levels, while also stimulating the thyroid to produce crucial thyroid hormones, thereby treating hypothyroidism.
