Women may be more susceptible to UTI because their urethral opening is near the source of bacteria (e.g., anus, vagina) and their urethra is shorter, providing bacteria easier access to the bladder. Other bacteria that cause urinary tract infections include Staphylococcus saprophyticus (5 to 15% of cases), Chlamydia trachomatis, and Mycoplasma hominis. Men and women infected with chlamydia trachomatis or mycoplasma hominis can transmit the bacteria to their partner during sexual intercourse, causing UTI.

Sexual intercourse triggers UTI in some women, for unknown reasons. Women who use a diaphragm develop infections more often, and condoms with spermicidal foam may cause the growth of E. coli in the vagina, which may enter the urethra.

Urinary catheterization (small tube inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain urine) can also cause UTI by introducing bacteria into the urinary tract. The risk for developing a UTI increases when long-term catheterization is required.

In infants, bacteria from soiled diapers can enter the urethra and cause UTI. E. coli may also enter the urethral opening when young girls do not wipe from front to back after a bowel movement.

Other risk factors include the following:

1.Bladder outlet obstructions (e.g., kidney stones, BPH). 2.Conditions that cause incomplete bladder emptying (e.g., spinal cord injury). 3.Congenital (present at birth) abnormalities of the urinary tract (e.g., vasicoureteral reflux). 4.Suppressed immune system. 5.Being uncircumcised. 6.Certain blood types enable bacteria to attach more easily to cells that line the urinary tract, causing recurrent UTIs.

Infections in women;

Women are more prone to UTI's, probably because they have shorter urethras which therefore pass bacteria into the urinary tract more easily.

Statistics show that one in every five women will develop a UTI during her lifetime. Some women are prone to recurring infections.

Women who have had more than three UTI's are likely to continue to develop recurrences within 18 months of a UTI.

Infections in men;

Men are not as prone to UTI's as women, but infections are still common.

While men develop UTI's less frequently than women, their infections tend to be more severe. UTI's in men are often caused by an obstruction (e.g. a urinary stone) or an enlarged prostate.

Prostate infections are more difficult to cure via conventional means because many antibiotics do not easily penetrate infected prostate tissue.

What is the usual treatment for a UTI?

Once a UTI has been diagnosed, most conventional doctors choose antibiotics as the preferred treatment. A course of antibiotics can quickly cure a UTI and kill the bacteria that cause it.

Although antibiotics certainly have their place, there are two main problems with antibiotic use for urinary tract infections:

N-Con Tonic, our unique herbal/homeopathic formula, contains the following ingredients:

Calcium Fluoride (Calc. Flour) is a biochemic tissue salt which helps to strengthen, tone and restore elasticity to all cells and body tissues. Natrium Phosphoricum (Nat. Phos.) acts as a biochemical antacid, acid neutralizer and PH balancer. It helps to ease the burning sensation experienced during a urinary tract infection and will also help with vaginal infections accompanied by an unpleasant itch. Nat Phos is invaluable for all ailments affecting the urinary system, including acid urine, bladder weakness, gallstones, kidney pain and nephritis. Like Ferrum Phos., it also helps to reduce nausea.

Natrium Sulphate (Nat. Sulph.) is a biochemic tissue salt also known as the 'cell cleanser' because it helps to regulate and balance all body fluids. It is useful for a range of conditions, and promotes the health of the liver, pancreas, urinary tract system, respiratory system and digestive system. Nat. Sulph is also particularly useful in cases of urine retention and incontinence.

Astragalus membranaceous (Huang Qi) is an herb which has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for many centuries. Recent research confirms the positive effect of Astragalus on immune functioning and its ability to help the body fight against disease. Other benefits include antibacterial, diuretic and tonic properties. Astragalus also helps to lower high blood pressure and regulate blood sugar levels.

How do I use Triple Complex N-Con Tonic?

Adults: Slowly dissolve two tablets under the tongue in a clean mouth two to three times daily. May be used continuously without side effects.

Babies and Small Children: Dissolve 1 - 2 tablets in a little warm water or milk twice daily.

Note: N-Con Tonic is safe to use during and after pregnancy and breastfeeding and will not interact with any other prescription medication.
